Today I am thankful for family. And not the traditional family that many people associate with that word. Cause let's be honest...the people you get stuck with by virtue of birth and marriage is a crap shoot and often leaves a lot to be desired.
I am thankful for the family I have developed over the course of my life, mostly by virtue of being a military brat and wife. The military means you are often stationed far from what, again in the traditional sense of the word, is home. Military people learn new definitions to the words home and family. Home is where the military sends you and you build a new family from the people you are surrounded with. Now, for those who don't know, yes, we frequently move, but those people aren't forgotten as soon as the truck is loaded. But rather, enduring, lifelong bonds are built, that I daresay are sometimes stronger than the traditional family. These are people are truly LIKE.
I am thankful I have people who are sisters to me.
I am thankful I have people who are brothers(or other husband lol)
I am thankful that the manchild has cousins.
I am thankful that the man has a whole set of brothers and sisters.
I am thankful I have nieces and nephews.
These are the people that have been there day in and day out for me and mine. They are who we celebrate holidays, birthdays, and Tuesdays with. They are the ones I can call in the middle of the night for a shoulder to cry on, a ride or for whatever reason. They are the ones that memories and private jokes are shared with. I have a very wide, varied and even ecclectic family and I wouldn't trade them for the world. And I'm thankful that I get to celebrate with some of them today, and those that aren't here are most definitely never far from our hearts and thoughts.
