I set up my training plan at the beginning of October. My schedule has me running 4 days a week. In the last 4 weeks, I'm happy to say I only missed one day(a Sat that had me being up with a puppy with an upset tummy in the middle of the night-and aggravated by a sore back from sleeping on the couch because of said puppy). Life happens sometimes, so I'm quite pleased with my progress this month and one missed run.
I'm VERY happy that I'm rediscovering why I love running. It makes me feel so good-physically and mentally. It gives me something to work towards(and ultimately accomplish each day, week, month, etc).
Mileage is still low right now while rebuilding, but I'm still getting out there and covering the miles. I know that building my base of slowly and the right way will only benefit me in the long run. I'm finding though that the Couch to 5K program I did over spring and early summer seems to have been a good base as well...I'm running most of the time and walking minimally, hope I can continue that as the mileage increases.
I've been setting myself up to to succeed...I pack my running gear and take it to work with me and so I don't have the opportunity to come home and wimp out on a run for whatever reason. I'm also finding that I'm wanting to run even when other things potentially could interfere. Last week, I had work, errands and a volunteer commitment-would have been easy to skip the run but I made time for it, and was glad I did. This morning, was up early and decided to hit the treadmill versus road so I headed to the gym so I could be back in time to drop manchild off for his band comp. Show up at the gym, try to use my 24hr access only to find it's not working. At that point, running on the road isn't an option since I don't have my garmin(haven't run enough routes here to know mileage) and no reflective gear. So I ran to the grocery store, came home, waited till it was time to take manchild and then hit the gym. Again, it would have been easy to opt out, but I sucked it up and 2+ hours later than planned, I got my miles in.
Up for November...going to work on getting back into yoga and piyo classes. I love them, they benefit my overall fitness and will help keeping me in shape for running. Also in Nov...3 half marathons-including a double weekend...Richmond Half and Freedom Half in Norfolk on Veteran's Day Weekend and followed by the Philly Half the weekend before Thanksgiving!
