Today, Mon Nov 8, I am thankful for Weight Watchers. I started WW 3+ years ago because I realized I had gained weight, I was now in my 30s and losing weight wasn't going to get any easier. I also knew that with one parent having high blood pressure and the other having diabetes, being overweight increased my risks of those. So I decided to do something about it. I started WW.
I admit to being very skeptical of WW-I had a friend at the time who had recently done it and complained about being hungry all the time, skipped coming over for Thanksgiving so they could do a meal with all WW friendly foods(mashed cauliflower instead of masher taters). I was so skeptical, I didn't even tell anyone I was doing it. The week that I happened to start it, was the week of 4th of July. I counted my points. I went to the gym and did the treadmill and elliptical. I went to a 4th of July BBQ-enjoyed myself and still tracked my points. I lost 5+ pounds that week! I was sold!! I continued on with it, counting points, incorporating running into it(which as a by product of, I fell in love with). I lost 50 bs in a little over 7 months.
I have gained some back, and don't want to get down to the lowest weight I initially did(I truly think it's too thin for me, and it's very hard to maintain-it's doable, but I like carbs, cheese and cream sauces too much...lol). The biggest problem with gaining weight back was I totally slacked off on my running-but was still eating like I was training for a marathon! So now, I'm back on track(started counting my points again last week, and hitting the gym again).
I'm here to tell you though, if you do it right(truly count your points and exercise), WW works and you will lose weight. I also truly believe, that like WW says, it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle. Sure I can give up carbs and lose weight, but as I said, I LIKE carbs-a lot...lol. You have to be willing to forgo things sometime, but it's ok to enjoy things for special occasions. And even the times when you gain back, or don't lose if you're in weight loss mode, it's part of life and you just have to be honest with what went wrong and get back in the saddle and hit it again.
